Monarch Magic! is a new, free art + nature activity program developed by Wavelets Creative in partnership with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (NENA), and led by Artist-in-Residence James Everest, with Naturalist Jenny Winkelman and several guest teaching artists.  Financial support through the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s (MRAC) Arts Learning program, with funds from the MN Legacy Amendment as voted on by the citizens of Minnesota.  All activities take place outdoors at the Nokomis Naturescape at Lake Nokomis Park, and are free and open to people of all ages and abilities.

In a series of 3-hour interactive workshops, participants learn about various aspects of Monarch Butterfly life cycles and habitat and then work together to create a community performance installation for the annual Monarch Festival. The Monarch Magic! pathway will serve as an immersive entryway from Lake Nokomis and nearby neighborhoods into the Festival on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Each workshop’s guided Nature Walk will be followed by artist-led activities combining music, dance, poetry, storytelling, sculpture, and mosaic into a unique site-specific installation environment.  No previous arts experience necessary to participate.
